Abobe updates Flash Player 10.1

Adobe has issued a patch to its Flash Player 10.1 browser plug-in for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux operating systems. Version 10.1.82.76 fully enables hardware-accelerated decoding of H.264 video content, providing smoother playback with less CPU usage on Macs running Mac OS X 10.6.3 (and above) with nVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processors or higher which includes the following:

  • MacBooks shipped after January 21, 2009.
  • Mac Minis shipped after March 3, 2009.
  • MacBook Pros shipped after October 14, 2008 (unibody form factor).
  • iMacs shipped after the first quarter of 2009 (nVIDIA units only. Models with ATI graphics processors not yet supported).

Adobe Product Manager Thibault Imbert gave details at ByteArray.org. “We rarely enable new features in security releases,” Imbert noted, “but we really wanted to enable such a cool feature.”

In addition, the update patches six “critical” security holes. Full details are available here.
